MONTHLY CHALLENGE #3: DRAW THIS SCENE!
A week ago or so, I watched How To Train Your Dragon 2 (which is fantastic and you should watch it) and was so motivated to draw fanart that I drew (painted) a scene of Hiccup and Astrid from the movie! I didn't really think of it as a challenge as it was all really fun! But it did make me pay attention to details I normally don't look into when I'm drawing willy nilly- such as facial structures and interactions between characters in the setting. Instead of focusing on what to make, this challenge will help focus on how to make it! And hopefully will teach you a little technique or two the original artist used in there.
The goal of this challenge is to recreate a scene from any movie or show. You are free to pick any movie or show, be it a live action or an animation/anime. Get a screenshot of the image you want to recreate and paint or draw it in your own style. Please try not to trace the original image; instead just eye ball it and do your best! The only requirement for this challenge is the format: your submission must include the original screen shot and your recreation of it.
Here's my example!
Tips and Tricks:
• You are free to pick colors from the original. It can be handy to gather simple base colors.
• Don't pay attention to details at first. Instead, your first focus should be on the larger shapes- the objects within the picture that convey what needs to be shown in the shot. Once you got the basic shapes down, you can gradually add detail to make it look like the real thing!
• Don't be limited to the original. For example, if you're redrawing an anime scene, you do not have to keep it in cell-shaded anime style. You can if you want, especially if it's not a style you normally don't do. Just know you are not limited in how you execute the recreation.

[April 2015] Challenge 4
Okay, I lied about starting in February it seems, but! I hope you all don't mind the informalities as I would love to keep this shindig rolling along quietly. SO the new monthly challenge is...
Monthly Challenge #3: DRAW FIVE FOODS!
I love food! Looking at food is great viewing pleasure and teaches you how to practice shapes and color coordination! ..I think.
The goal of this challenge is self-explanatory - draw five foods, be it desserts, actual meals, etc. You're not limited to five and you can draw more as it's good practice! Feel free to reference pictures, just make sure that you give proper credit by linking to the original (preferabl
Getting Back In Action in 2015!
So sorry for disappearing in the latter half of 2014. I just got swamped with work and almost murdered by chemistry, but we're back in kicking and ready to go again! Been talking with Yuuno-chii (https://www.deviantart.com/yuuno-chii) about some ideas for challenges and she's tossed up a good number of them. I'm really looking forward to tackling those in this group.
Don't think we're dead yet. We're just getting things rolling along once again.
A big thanks to Yuu though for being so supportive and always eager to keep this shindig alive. <3
We will be starting our challenges again in February!

Monthly Challenge #2: LIMITED COLOR PALETTE!
I have a friend who's doing a 30 day challenge and one of her prompts was a limited color palette! It got me thinking. Using a bunch of colors is fun, but if you splash on a random and large amount of colors on the art, the end result may look like a rainbow with no thought. I'm sometimes guilty about it (as I just splash on colors and hope for the best).
Even so, a growing artist must learn how colors work together as colors can affect the mood and setting. They are a powerful element to art.
The goal of this challenge is to produce a piece of art using a limited color palette. There is no specif

Monthly Challenge #1: CHARACTER SHEET!!!
Character sheets are always fun to do when applying for RP groups or making refs on your story/games. It helps to visualize and outline the character for your own and other's reference. As the idea is pretty easy, we thought this would be the best first challenge!
The main goal of this challenge is to completely show the full design of your character. There will be no given template for the character sheet. You are free to decide its layout and decorate it, but try not to detract too much attention from your character design. You may choose any of your ocs or your mascot for this challenge.
